One of my most favorite things to talk about Disney related is the theme parks! I feel as though besides the iconic Disney movies, the Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World seems like the next thing that people may associate with Disney.

A Little Disney Theme Park History:

Walt Disney World is located in Orlando, FL whereas the original Disney park, Disneyland, is in Anaheim, CA. Disneyland was opened in July of 1955 and is most well known for its various lands spread throughout the park. Those lands include Fantasyland, Tomorrowland, Frontierland, and Adventureland. Each of these lands branch off of the main focal point of the park, Sleeping Beauty’s Castle. As you enter into Disneyland you are met with Main Street USA, which was modeled after Walt Disney’s own hometown of Marceline, Missouri.

The park was an absolute success after opening with guests beloved Disney movies being turned into rides and attractions that allowed for their imaginations to run wild. Adults and children alike were amazed at such a theme park as this one. Walt Disney himself decided that he wanted to expand this theme park industry and created what was known as the Florida Project. This project included a version of Disneyland that would be known as the Magic Kingdom. Unfortunately Walt Disney died in December of 1966 so he would be unable to see to fruition his dream of a Florida Disney theme park.

Even with his untimely death, the Magic Kingdom in Florida continued to be developed and opened on October 1st 1971. This was the first of the Disney parks in Orlando but definitely not the last. The next that followed was EPCOT, MGM Studios (now known as Hollywood Studios), and lastly Animal Kingdom. But let’s get back to the Magic Kingdom for just a little bit and tell you why it is everyones must do theme park.

The Highlights:

  • Cinderellas Castle on Main Street
  • The four lands just like in Disneyland
    • Fantasyland- classic rides such as It’s a Small World, Mad Tea Cups, The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh, and Dumbo the Flying Elephant. A land full of the imagination of the classic Disney movies.

    • Tomorrowland- A futuristic world showcasing rides such as my ultimate favorite Space Mountain, Buzz Lightyears Space Ranger Spin, Monsters Laugh Floor, and Tomorrowland Speedway

Space Mountain (aka the best Disney theme park mountain)

    • Frontierland- A land with rides such as the Country Bear Jamboree, Splash Mountain, and Big Thunder Mountain

The Country Bear Jamboree an attraction and a show in Frontierland

Adventureland- A land full of rides inspired by adventure and traveling such as The Jungle Cruise, The Enchanted Tiki Room, Aladdins Magic Carpet, and the Pirates of the Caribbean

The outside of the Enchanted Tiki Room, another ride and attraction in one in Adventureland

  • Also I can’t forget to mention the amazing daytime parades and the nighttime fireworks show Happily Ever After

I hope this post provided some background into the Disney theme parks and look out for my next one where I will dive into the other three parks as well as some info on Disney’s two waterparks as well. If you ever want to learn more about the parks at Disney World I highly suggest the Disney World website.

Hope you have a magical day!
