After reading three of my peers entries for this week, it was interesting to see the variation in the information they included and also some similarities. For me the pattern I saw in the entries were the thought surrounding Dorian Grey’s life and how he became influenced to do what he did. In my own entry I discussed Dorian’s double life and how the criminal side of him and the aesthete combine to form who he is? But a question could be raised, how did this ever happen? Well as some entries discussed this had a lot to do with Lord Henry’s influence and manipulation to change Dorian’s character. I mentioned in one of my comments if this want to believe and accept Henry’s views had to do with the fact that Dorian didn’t have his parents to help shape him and at the age at he was when he met Henry, he found himself needing more of an identity. Another question that could be raised of why did Dorian never listen to Basil? After the moment that Dorian meets Henry he kind of throws Basil in the dust and only listens to the corrupt views and ideas of Lord Henry. This I feel speaks to the idea that in the world there are people who will try and manipulate you and use you ( Lord Henry) and there are others (like Basil) who will stand by your side see your true worth. Dorian couldn’t see this because he was young and only listened to the praises of the more respectable.
