For the common place book entries that I looked at, they all focused on different aspects though I could pick out some similarities. The novel so far shows that Dracula has a way that he is able to manipulate and convince people to do what he wants, such as Johnathan Harker. A few common place books chose quotes from the novel which displayed his influence on other character. In my own CPB while. While I didn’t discuss this exactly, in a way the elements and appeal of sexuality that Dracula displays, shows this ability to convince people of partaking in certain things. Another thing that CPB’s seemed to focus on was the inclusion of sexuality and the sensual nature of the novel and how this was something different from other Victorian novels. Something I found interesting that I found for my CPB was that he was using sexuality to make fun of the New Women and use the anxieties that people had about women taking on that role, as a way to show how fragile they can become and therefore taken advantage of. I focused on this aspect of sexuality in my entry but in another peers CPB the focus was more on the homoerotic connections in the novel and how Stoker expressed these in the novel which was interesting to read. It showed a different side this element of the novel. Something that I noted was that looking at adaptations of Dracula throughout the years it almost seems as though the horror elements subside and the sexual sensual aspects become the more prevalent. It will be interesting to be the more we get into the novel, how much this element becomes even more pronounced.
