Caitlyn Irish- Cover Letter Seacoast Science Center

Journal #9:

As I revise my cover letter the things that I will focus on in my revision process will be to include more emphasis on my specific skills and how they will be beneficial to the organization. I sometimes am too humble to talking of myself and I hope that I can strike a balance between humble and arrogance. I also will focus on rereading my draft to help with the structure of my sentences to make the flow of them make more sense.

The most effective thing about being a peer reviewer was being able to see areas of someones writing that I identified with in terms of making the same mistake. It allowed to see how I could also take things that someone was doing well in their cover letter and somehow apply that to mine. It was also eye opening for having someone look at my cover letter as there are things that you miss while getting caught up in writing it

Journal #11:

This process of creating a cover letter for class was extremely helpful as it allowed me to identify things that I could work to improve on for the future. I have written cover letters before, however not with using the AIDA format. This format has showed how much the the areas such as interest and desire are to capturing someones attention in reading my cover letter. I have learned the balance of being too humble but not overly arrogant when speaking about myself and the skills that I possess. I have definitely seen an improvement from the first cover letter that I sent in for an internship to this example one. I also have gained the knowledge of how important having someone, other than myself, proof read my cover letter. The outside perspective to how my wording and grammar was structured helped me a lot. When constructing the cover letter I found it wasn’t too difficult to talk about myself and the experience that I have in relation to the position, however I did struggle with narrowing down what I wanted to include. I would go back and forth trying to decide if what I put in the desire and interest paragraphs were the best representation of myself. This I’m sure is something that with more practice I will figure out and be more confident with.
